Challenge
Bloom & Root had built something genuinely special a botanical studio with a distinct point of view, a loyal local following, and arrangements that people described as works of art. But none of that translated online. Their existing website was a generic template with stock imagery, a typeface that had nothing to do with their aesthetic, and copy that could have belonged to any florist anywhere. The digital experience was so disconnected from the physical one that first-time visitors couldn't understand what made the studio worth choosing. The challenge ran deeper than aesthetics.

Approach
I opened with a two-hour brand conversation not a formal workshop, just a structured dialogue asking the founder to describe the studio in textures, moods, references, and contrasts. What it wasn't was as useful as what it was. The visual identity was built around restraint. An earthy, desaturated palette ivory, clay, deep moss that referenced the natural materials at the core of the work. A serif wordmark with slightly drawn-out letterforms, paired with a clean grotesque for supporting text. No icon, no flourish the name carried enough. The website was designed as an editorial sequence rather than a conventional landing page. Large, unhurried imagery. Sparse copy that assumed the visitor had taste.
Outcome
The brand now reads as an extension of the studio rather than a description of it. Visitors who had never encountered Bloom & Root in person reported feeling like they already understood what it stood for before reading a word of copy. The founder described the finished identity as "exactly what I couldn't figure out how to ask for" which is usually the sign that the brief was uncovered through the process rather than handed over at the start.
